Positive thinking is a discipline that trains the human mind to change a perceived reality by repeatedly making positive mental statements. A person practices positive thinking when they derive a positive sense of well-being, optimism, belonging, meaning and/or purpose from being part of and contributing back to something larger and more permanent than themselves.

Let me share with you some causes and effects of positive thinking:
Being properly aware of the Creator: Besides being the Powerful, He – the Almighty – is the Owner, the Planner, the Supporter of Good, the Merciful, the Loving…and this will inculcate confidence and firm belief in his/her heart.
  • Being properly aware of one’s role of a steward on earth: A strong believer is better and more loveable to Allah than a week believer; however, there is good in both…(Muslim/Ibn Majah)
  • Being properly aware of the universe (our surrounding) and its challenges including ordeals and afflictions.
  • Living in an environment of optimism – being brought up in such an environment.
  • Be in the company of optimist individuals.
  • Realistic understanding of the true nature of Islam.
  • Having the true knowledge of the consequences and what negative thinking can do to us
On Individual:
  • One feels more in peace with himself/herself
  • One attains the feeling of belonging, security and comfort
  • Having more support of others since an optimist performs his/her role as required
Showing good example to others otherwise if one becomes a pessimist it could hinder many others to follow
One’s effort is rewarded in a way that such a person will not be in a state of worry and psychological disturbance
God’s Grace is upon such individuals

On Community:

  • Cohesive community because everyone feels eager to contribute and encouraged (however, when a pessimist turns idle, this may encourage, especially youth, who lack the necessary immunity, to turn idle too
  • Prosperous community materially and / administratively
  • God’s blessings are with the community
On Society:
  • Tranquillity/peace and progress in the society
  • Better Muslim’s image in the larger society
In life, there are enough times when we are disappointed, depressed and annoyed. We don’t really have to go looking for them. We have a wonderful world that is full of beauty, light and promise. Why waste time in this world looking for the bad, disappointing or annoying things when we can look around us, and see the wondrous things before us! Everything depends on how we see it. Our perception is of great importance.
So let us think positive! Thinking positive is the key to our personal success that consequently contributes to our family, the community and the whole society.
