Supporting Queensway-Carleton Hospital, Jan Harder, City Councillor Barrhaven

It’s 2017 and no doubt this will be an exciting year here in Ottawa, the Nation’s Capital. Not only is it Canada’s 150th birthday, 2017 is Nepean’s 225th birthday.  It is also 20 years since voters elected me.  I am proud to serve and thank you all for your support over these many years.

As I mentioned I wanted to contribute something special to say thanks and so

I made a commitment to raise $100,000 for the Queensway-Carleton Hospital, a hospital that has been there for me, my family and for many of the residents of Barrhaven and in fact all of West Ottawa/Nepean/Kanata/Stittsville/Rural Ottawa in West Carleton and Rideau Goulbourn wards and of course the Ottawa Valley and west to Perth and down to Smith Falls. The calendar of events to raise funds and have fun is extensive. I thought to fill you in on the first two coming soon for which I hope you will not only mark your calendars and save the date but participate in as well.

The first event is “A Night of Fun and Games” at Barrhaven’s Boston Pizza at 1681 Greenbank Road on Wednesday, February 1st. It will be a fun evening, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. This is a family event so please do come out with Nana & Papa, the kiddos and neighbours. Games like Plinko and Spin the Wheel will make for some raucous and energetic family fun. You will not want to miss the opportunity to win the Grand Prize for the evening.  Someone who attends between 5 and 8, yes at this one event, will win tickets for four to the “Picnic on the Bridge” on July 2nd. The picnic will take place on the historic Royal Alexandra Bridge. This event sold out within 10 minutes when tickets first went on sale, so this is one of the few chances you will have to attend!  Boston Pizza will kick in a percentage of all food sales during this time frame and of course all proceeds will go to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital.

The Group of SEVin ( and Mr. Keo Taing and his family will host the second event the next evening February 2nd at Taing Jewellers 810 Greenbank Road from 7 – 9. SEVin is a group of Barrhaven women myself included who got together when our good friend Shirl Kennedy was very ill and we wanted to support her by raising money for the QCH. Like all of you each of us has been touched by cancer.

The event is Sparkle by SEVin.  The Taing family is providing the grand prize, a diamond tennis bracelet, valued at over $1,000. We’d love you to make a $77 donation and join us at Taing Jewellers for fun and refreshments and of course all donations will go directly to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital.

Everyone has a story to tell about our Queensway Carleton Hospital, what’s yours?
