The Quran: What is in it for Mankind? Dr Emdad Khan
The Quran is the last book of God, a guidance to mankind and a distinction between right and wrong, confirming the truth of earlier scriptures.
The Quran contains 114 chapters, about 6,500 verses. According to scholars, the central seven themes of the Quran are (a) the existence, believe and introduction of one unique God, his power and His signs, (b) the life after death and the day of judgement (c) final destination, heaven or hell fire, (d) good & evil, right & wrong, reward & punishment, (e) mankind, his origin, purpose of life, birth, death, and destiny (e) stories of 25 prophets sent to past tribes and nations. (7) laws of Islamic rituals and code of morality ethics, and justice.
- The unique God
The unique God created the universe and has power over everything within it. He is unique and exalted over everything. The chapter 3, Ikhlas and Ayat Al-Kurshi, (2.255) and many other verses explains the characteristics of unique of God.

What are they asking (one another about)? (1) About the great news, (the Day of Resurrection), (2) About which they are in disagreement. (3)
And the Trumpet will be blown and then from the graves they will come out quickly to their Lord. (36.51)
- Ultimate Destination of heaven or hell fire,
Paradise is the reward which God has prepared for the believers and Hell is the abode which He prepared for those who do not believe in Him.
The Day when He will gather you (all) on the Day of Gathering, that will be the Day of mutual loss and gain And whosoever believes in Allâh and performs righteous good deeds, He will expiate from him his sins, and will admit him to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise) to dwell therein forever, that will be the great success. (64.9)
But those who disbelieved (in the Oneness of Allâh – Islâmic Monotheism) and denied Our Ayât (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they will be the dwellers of the Fire, to dwell therein forever. And worst indeed is that destination (64.10)
- Good & evil, right & wrong, reward & punishment,
God Commands to do good and forbidding the evil,
Verily, Allâh enjoins justice and Al-Ihsân [i.e. Kindness] and giving (help) to kith and kin and forbids Al-Fahshâ’ (i.e all immoral acts), and Al-Munkar (evil deeds), and Al-Baghy ( oppression), He admonishes you, that you may take heed. (16.90)
- Mankind purpose of life, birth, death, destiny and ultimate destination
The question comes to human mind: Where did we come from? Where are we going? Why we are here? What is the purpose of life?
God Directly addresses mankind, why he is Careless:
O man! What has made you careless about your Lord, the Most Generous? (6) Who created you, fashioned you perfectly, and gave you due proportion; (7) In whatever form He willed, He put you together. (8) Nay! But you deny the Ad-Din (i.e. the Day of Recompense). (9) But verily, over you (are appointed angels in charge of mankind) to watch you, (82.10)
God Invites, Obedient Mankind to Enter Jannah
“O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! (27) “Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing (unto Him)! (28) “Enter you, then, among My (honoured) slaves, (29) “And enter you My Paradise!” (89.30)
- 25 prophets sent to past tribes and nations.
God communicated with mankind through a special, selected human beings, the prophets. The prophets received revelations through angel Gabriel (AHS) and delivered to humanity for their guidance, peace and ultimate salvation.
The Quran describes stores of 25 prophets and the message has been identical for all mankind from prophet Adam (AHS) until last prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Hence in the Quran we find the familiar stories of Moses (AHS), Jesus (AHS), Abraham (AHS), and Noah (AHS) as observed in the Jewish Tourah and Christian Injil.
The Messenger believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allâh, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. (They say), “We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers” and they say, “We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your Forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all).” (2.285)
God sent prophets to all nations on earth, at various stages of their histories. Muslims
- Laws of Islamic rituals and code of morality & ethics.
God explains Halal, Haram, Fasting, Zakah, Hajj and believing in one God. Honest, sincere, reliable and trustworthy individuals, who live in peace and let others live in peace are basis of healthy human society.
So recite as much of the Qur’ân as may be easy , and perform As-Salât and give Zakât, and lend to Allâh a goodly loan, And whatever good you send before you for yourselves, you will certainly find it with Allâh, better and greater in reward. And seek Forgiveness of Allâh. Verily, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful (20)
