Intention to get Pleasure of Allah SWT, Dr Emdad
We have a short life in this world, maybe 50, 60, 70 or 80 years.
When we leave this dunya, we should leave in a state where Allah is pleased with us and we are pleased with Him.
Let us contemplate verses 27 – 30 of surah Al-fajr.
Here Allah swt defined the final goal of our dunya life
89:27
يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ ٢٧
˹Allah will say to the righteous, ˺ “O tranquil soul!

89:28
ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةًۭ مَّرْضِيَّةًۭ ٢٨
Return to your Lord, well pleased ˹with Him˺ and well pleasing ˹to Him˺.
89:29
فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى ٢٩
So join My servants,
وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى ٣٠
and enter My Paradise.”

Here in these 4 verses Allah swt says.
O tranquil soul. (God) well pleased with him (person) and he (person) also well pleased with his Creator.
Then, He invites this person, so join as My servants and enter My Jannah
We know that the souls are of three types: the one that incites to do evil, a person does what he desires (al nafs al-āmāra).
The reproachful soul, when one does evil but feels ashamed and tries to come to the right path and seeks forgiveness (al-nafs al-lawwāma).
The last one that is serene/tranquil soul, where one enjoys doing what God commanded, (al-nafs al-muṭmaʾinna). He is the muttaqi (conscious of God), and busy in doing good, following the commands of God, helping orphans and needy, thinking of community benefits and so on.
We came to this dunya for a short life and our aim is to return to a state He is pleased with and we are pleased with Him. Everyone recites, when someone passes away, we are for God, and to Him is our return.
